The best part of moving? Making it our new home!

July 14, 2021 BY Renee Limon

When we first started planning our clinic move, who would have ever figured it’d be in the midst of a record-setting heatwave so bad that the air conditioning at both the clinic we moved from and the clinic we moved into would be on the fritz? Thankfully, most of the actual moving was done early in the morning before it got too steamy, and we were able to pace ourselves on the unpacking so that we didn’t overheat.

We’re so grateful to our families for rolling with the changes during our transition. For some who hadn’t done online therapy for a while, it was fun to go back online and see glimpses of clinicians’ pets again!

We were super excited about the big new space and room for new equipment in our occupational therapy gym. According to Christina, “The space is really coming together and it has been amazing so far. It’s so, so much easier for me to work on sensory and motor skills with the new equipment and space. The kiddos have really enjoyed the extra room to run around!” Just this week, we just had the climbing ladder installed. Will you be one of the first who gets to try it out? All of our clinicians now have roomy, sun-filled offices with big windows and built-in cabinets (as funny as it might sound, they’ve wanted cabinets with doors for ages so they can minimize distractions in their therapy sessions).

Summer camps

Now that we’re moved in, we’re putting our toe back in the camps and groups pool. Friday, July 30 will be our first Parents’ Night Out in over a year! It’ll be from 5-7 pm and work on both speech/language and occupational therapy goals. Participants must be potty-trained. For safety, we’re keeping the group small, and we’ll eat a snack outside. Masks are required.

Other camps we have:

  • R Camp: This will be a fun one-day camp with games, crafts, and ridiculous activities all centered around the R sound. The camp will be on August 5, from 10 am to noon. It’s for those who are able to produce the R sound at the word level through conversation level.
  • Parents’ Night Out: August 27, from 5-7 pm.
  • Social skills groups: These meet weekly for one hour over several weeks and will start in the fall once kids are back to school.

After school therapy slots

As we head toward what is hoped/expected to be a much more normal school year, it’s time to be thinking about your fall therapy spot. If you’re interested in an after-school therapy appointment, now is the time to let your clinician know. Lots of folks take therapy breaks in the summer (and with the year we’ve all had, we deserve a break), so now’s the time to move spots! That way you’ll be set up for success in the fall.

Grand opening

We’re still seeing many of our clients via teletherapy, and so only a few families who have in-person therapy visits have gotten to check out our new clinic. We’ve scheduled a grand opening celebration for August 18 from 3:30-5:30 pm. We’ll have light snacks and fun activities in and around our new clinic. Hope to see you there!
