The clinicians and I recently had the chance to meet with Connor Kavanaugh and Alisha Langford from MassMutual of Oregon’s Special Care Team. It’s a financial advising group that specializes in lifetime planning for people with special needs. While I don’t know a ton about financial planning, I do get that it’s important to have someone advising you who understands your situation! They note on their website that they have “advanced training and information in estate and tax planning concepts, special needs trusts, government programs, and the emotional dynamics of working with people with disabilities and other special needs and their families.”
Connor and Alisha work specifically with families that include people with disabilities and special needs. Their focus is lifetime care. They have some great resources on their web page, including a quiz that parents can take to test their preparedness. The Special Care Team also partners with an impressive list of organizations to help families find the right resources for their family members.
We were all excited to learn that Connor and Alisha host free seminars (see their calendar here), and that they are available to come speak here at the Clinic as well. We’ll have a sign-up sheet at the front desk starting next week, so please write your name down if you’re interested in meeting them and hearing about financial planning for your family.
