Kathleen Callaghan is a clinician at The Hello Clinic, where she has worked since 2013. Over the last year, she has had the opportunity to work with a very unique client. This 5-year old boy has a genetic abnormality causing a gradual loss of communication and motor skills, and was recently identified as a good candidate for a speech-generating device. Upon making this determination, Kathleen and his family embarked upon an adventure that has taken them through evaluation of his skills, trialing of low and high-tech approaches, and extensive collaboration with other clinicians, doctors, sales reps, and community services. Right now, they are in discussions with the insurance company, and hope to have the device approved by year’s end.
We want to recognize Kathleen’s substantial effort towards identifying and acquiring an AAC device that meets this child’s needs. Thank you, Kathleen, for putting kids first! Congratulations on being our December 2015 THF Clinician of the Month!
