With Valentine’s Day coming up, we’re focusing on 5 things we love!
1. Our First Tongue Thrust Group
We are excited to announce our first ever Tongue Thrust Group! This group is for kids ages 8 and up, and will be held March 23-26 (during spring break). Participants will work one-on-one daily with an SLP and a team of graduate student clinicians. This intensive 4-day camp is filled with fun activities and will give kids the keys to achieving a new tongue resting position and swallow pattern. Sign up today.
2. Speech/Language Graduate Students: Marissa & Helen
This term we have the pleasure of working with Marissa from Portland State University and Helen from Pacific University. They shared some thoughts about their experiences so far:
Marissa: My favorite thing about The Hello Clinic is all the clients and families! They are wonderful! Also that The Hello Clinic builds a collaborative team atmosphere. Under the amazing guidance from my supervising SLP, I have found my clinical voice and style. This has helped with my ever-growing confidence. I have also improved in my progress note writing skills and lesson planning! When I am not at the clinic, I spend my time competing on a masters synchronized swimming team. I also enjoy traveling and enjoy being lazy at home watching movies!
Helen: I love partnering with all of the clinicians and the front desk team, and being a part of the team! As a student, I learned that collaboration is key and being in a team environment means I am not alone and I can always seek advice/help from other talented clinicians. I’ve learned it is okay to not have all of the answers. When not at the clinic, I am generally spending time with my corgi, Bandit, and my husband or I am out playing tennis.
3. Black History Month
February is Black History Month, and Alice shared this great link about looking at Black History Month through fresh eyes. We especially like the focus on Black artists. Check it out!
4. Our February Therapy Craft
It’s sweet and it’s lovely! We’ll be making these paper hearts for the whole month, so don’t worry if you don’t make one before Valentine’s Day. It’s always a good time to share some love.
5. Parents’ Night Out
Hands down, this is one of our most popular groups. Laura and Christina host a Parents Night Out once a month, usually on a Friday evening, and fill it with fun, games, therapy, and dinner. It gives our families and caregivers a leisurely three hours to spend as they like. The Valentine-themed PNO is this Friday, February 14, and yep, it’s full. Our next PNO is Friday, March 27. We hope to see you there.
Have a wonderful February full of things you love!
