Give is one of the core values here at Hello. But maybe you knew that already.
You probably also know all about Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving.
The Portland State University Speech and Hearing Sciences program is in the process of endowing a scholarship in the name of longtime professor and mentor Mary Gordon Brannan. Endowment means that the scholarship will live on in perpetuity, helping one graduate student each year. They are very close to meeting their goal, meaning that the scholarship could be first awarded as early as this February to a student who demonstrates academic excellence but faces significant economic barriers to attending graduate school.
Can you see where I’m going with this?
We saw this as a perfect coming together of circumstances for us and so took last Tuesday, 11/29/16, to encourage our clinicians to donate to the scholarship in the spirit of helping remove financial barriers for students, giving back to our profession, and nurturing the next generation of skilled clinicians. To sweeten the deal, The Hello Foundation pledged to match the donations our folks made to this scholarship on Giving Tuesday, dollar for dollar, up to $1000.
I’m so excited to share that our efforts resulted in $1500 being given to the Mary Gordon-Brannan Scholarship Fund at Portland State. Our fingers are crossed that the first recipient being announced this Spring. It is such a privilege to work with people who are so committed to putting our core value of Give into action.
Update, 2/6/17: We’ve just received word that the scholarship was fully endowed! This means that there will now be a $1000 scholarship awarded each year in perpetuity. Yay!
